Palliative care
Palliative care is the care of patients whose disease is advancing and not curable. The aim is to achieve the best possible quality of life by managing the effects of the disease.
The St John’s Hospice offer a range of specialist services to patients with life-limiting conditions and their families. St John’s Hospice offer the following services:

- community palliative care
- counselling
- day therapy
- inpatient unit
- outpatient clinic
- spiritual and religious care
Information and support centre
St John’s information and support centre offers specialist palliative and end-of-life care, including inpatient care, community services, counselling, and cancer information and support.
Community palliative care
St John’s community palliative care provides expert advice and support to patients and their families or carers, both in their own home and at our outpatient clinic.

Counselling
St John’s counselling service supports individuals with a life-limiting illness and their families, offering high-quality, personalised care that addresses emotional, physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. It aims to empower individuals and carers by providing tailored support.

Day therapy
St John’s day therapy unit, located at St John’s Hospice, supports patients with life-limiting conditions by improving quality of life and managing symptoms. Through guided activities and connections with others, we help you achieve personal goals and enhance well-being.

Inpatient unit
St John’s Hospice inpatient unit provides specialist palliative end of life care to adult patients and their families.

Outpatient clinic
St John’s outpatient clinic provides patients with a life-limiting illness the ability to see a palliative medicine consultant in the outpatient setting for complex symptom control.
Spiritual and religious care
The spiritual and religious care centre provides spiritual and religious care to everyone using the hospice’s services, whether on our wards, in the day therapy unit, or at home.
St John’s welcomes people of all beliefs and encourages individuals to express their spirituality or practice their religion in their own way.
Committed to holistic care, St John’s values what matters most to each person. We recognise that illness can raise emotional, mental, and spiritual questions, in addition to physical concerns. These may involve your health, life’s meaning, or worries about your loved ones.
