Help with health cost

You may be eligible for help with some of the cost you can incur towards your healthcare. It is your responsibility to check and ensure you are entitled to make claims. Find out about when you need to pay, help when on universal credit, travel cost and personal health budgets.

Healthcare travel cost scheme
If you’re referred to hospital or other NHS premises for specialist NHS treatment or diagnostic tests by a doctor, dentist or another primary care health professional, you may be able to claim a refund of reasonable travel costs under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS).

If you have a low income, you may be able to get help with NHS costs through the NHS Low Income Scheme (LIS).

When you need to pay towards NHS Care
Patients often need to pay towards cost of prescriptions, dental care, eye care wigs and fabric supports. The money raised helps fund the NHS.

What is a personal health budget?
A personal health budget is an amount of NHS money that is allocated to support your health and wellbeing needs. If you’re eligible for it, you (or someone who represents you), will work with your local NHS team to plan how you spend the money and get the care you need.
