Deaf people mental health
Deaf people mental health is a service in Doncaster
The South Yorkshire service for Deaf people with mental health needs operates within specialist mental health services, specifically catering to Deaf patients encountering more severe mental health challenges.
How we can help
Our team collaborates with mental health teams to assist in the care and treatment of Deaf patients. We also provide support to both deaf and hearing caregivers in caring for their relatives with mental health issues.
Comprising a team that includes a clinical nurse specialist in mental health and deafness, all members are proficient in British sign language (BSL) and possess experience in working with Deaf individuals facing mental health problems.
We aim to assist you in activities that promote both physical and mental wellbeing. This includes:
- recognising positive aspects in your life and making constructive changes
- engaging in exercise or sports
- maintaining a healthy diet
- building social connections
- encouraging open conversations about your feelings, not just during challenging times
- seeking support when needed
How to get help
Referrals to our service can be initiated by the GP, sensory impairment team, local mental health teams, and primary care services.
However, patients seeking our services must undergo assessment or have a care coordinator within a local secondary mental health team.
