Children’s continence

Children’s continence is a service in Doncaster

The children’s continence service provides guidance, assessment, and assistance to children aged 4 to 19 years experiencing continence issues.

How we can help

We start with an initial assessment, which involves completing dietary and fluid intake charts and reviewing lifestyle factors. Following this, we work together with the young person and their parents or carers to create a treatment plan for promoting continence.

We collaborate with schools to ensure ongoing support during the day, developing management plans and supporting education, especially for children with complex needs. If continence is not achievable at this time, we discuss and assess the need for disposable or washable products.

For night-time wetting in children aged six and a half years and over, we may consider and support alarm therapy and medication as part of their treatment plan.

If you’re interested in learning more about children’s continence or taking early steps to encourage continence, feel free to visit the ERIC website (opens in new window) for more information and advice.

How to get help

We follow a referral process, accepting referrals from GPs, hospital consultants, other health professionals, and parents or carers.
