There are aspects of skin care that require careful consideration when managing the larger patient.
The patient may be more vulnerable to pressure areas, skin folds and excess moisture levels from sweating, potentially leading to skin rashes and infections.
They may also be at risk from skin damage from friction and shearing as a result of poor handling.
Colleagues are advised to refer to wound care and tissue viability manual and if needing further support and guidance to contact the tissue viability and lymphoedema service (TVAL’s) who are listed in the directory of specialist advisors.
