The Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Act 2018 states that we must be open and transparent with you, your family and, or your carer(s) about the physical use of force (supporting holds) that is used in the area where you are being supported.
The act states that you have a right to know:
- what we do to avoid using supporting holds
- why and how supporting holds maybe used to keep you or others safe
- what supporting holds maybe used to keep you and other safe
- what restrictions are and why they are used
- how to make a complaint if you feel there has been an overuse or misuse of physical force
You can find out all of this information by asking the staff. However, if you would prefer you and, or you family or carer can ask to see the ward booklet on the physical use of force (supporting holds). This can be accessed at any time with staff support.
